How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Signs include a fuse box rather than a consumer unit, rubber-insulated cables, round pin sockets, flickering lights, regularly tripping circuits, or a property that has not been rewired in the last 25 to 30 years. An EICR inspection will confirm the condition of your wiring.

Do I need Part P certification for electrical work?

Yes. Most electrical work in a home requires notification under Part P of the Building Regulations. Work carried out by a qualified electrician is certified and notified automatically. Without this, you may have difficulty selling your home.

How long does a full house rewire take?

A two-bedroom property typically takes three to five days. A four-bedroom house takes five to ten days. We keep disruption to a minimum throughout.

Can you fit smart home electrics and lighting?

Yes. We install smart lighting systems, smart sockets, and smart consumer units compatible with popular home automation platforms including Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

How often should an EICR be carried out?

Landlords are required to have an EICR carried out every five years. Homeowners are recommended to get one every ten years or when buying a property.

Can you add a circuit for my home office?

Yes. A dedicated circuit for a home office ensures you have adequate capacity for computers, monitors, and other equipment without overloading your existing ring main.

What is a consumer unit and why would I need to replace mine?

A consumer unit (or fuse board) is the central distribution point for all your home’s circuits. Older units lack RCD protection, which is a significant safety concern. Modern consumer units provide much better protection against electric shock and fire.
